BMD-1 Combat Vehicle TECHNICAL DETAILS.
The BMD-1 can be considered as a BMP intended for airborne troops. Therefore, the vehicle must be lighter and smaller to meet the weight requirements for airdrop (the BMD-1 is attached to a pallet and parachuted from cargo planes). From the front to the rear of the vehicle, the compartments are arranged in the following formation: steering, combat, troop, and engine.
